Skiffle City Ramblers

Probably the only existing video of british skiffle pioneers. Taken from old Russian movie "Девушка с гитарой" (The girl with guitar), which features performances of various artists at the World Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow in 1957.

Bob Brozman - Bottleneck Blues Guitar, Vol. 1

Great video by Bob. After watching this I've filed my own bottleneck out of a wine bottle and tuned one of my guitars to open G forever. Probably you'll find PDF file with instruction pretty useful as well

This is my favourite video of this week. It's from old Soviet movie of 1967, which was supposed to be a comedy, where main character along with his mother is in search for a wife, but the way it's done reminds me Ed Wood rather than Billy Wilder. Anyway, music by Alexander Zatsepin is excellent and vocals by Elmira Uruzbaeva as well, as you can witness from this clip.

Duane Eddy In Concert (1975)

Video from some country performance in 1975, taken from German DVD where it's mixed with performance by Jerry Naylor (which I didn't really like). Here you have an unique possibility to see Duane playing fingerpicking and hear his cute wife singing.

2. Cannonball Rag
3. Three-30-Blues
4. Movin'n'Groovin'
5. Son of a Guitar Man (voc. Deed Eddy)
6. Play Me Like You Play Your Guitar
7. Rebel Rouser
8. Peter Gunn

It's Trad, Dad! (a.k.a. Ring-a-Ding Rhythm!) (1962)

First film by Richard Lester ("A Hard Days Night", "Help!"). Nice old movie with outstanding music numbers. Teenagers in a British town unite in their struggle to be allowed to listen to rock & roll and jazz music. The mayor tries to ban the jukebox in the local coffeehouse.
The teenagers organize a music festival to prove rock and roll has nothing to do with the Devil! Features Helen Shapiro, Craig Douglas, David Jacobs, Alan Freeman, Acker Bilk with great performances by Temperence Seven, John Leyton, Gene Vincent, Gene McDaniels, The Dukes of Dixieland, Del Shannon, Chubby Checker and many others.

John Leyton - Lonely City

Gene Vincent - Spaceship To Mars

King Of Jazz (1930)

King of Jazz is a 1930 motion picture starring Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra. The film's title was taken from Whiteman's controversial, self-conferred appellation. (This might seem controversial these days, but in the 1920s, it was Whiteman who signed and featured great white jazz musicians including Venuti, Lang, Dorsey, Beiderbecke, Trumbauer and others.) The film was shot entirely in the early two-color Technicolor process and was produced by Carl Laemmle for Universal Pictures. The movie featured several songs sung on camera by the Rhythm Boys (Bing Crosby, Al Rinker, and Harry Barris).....

Chet Atkins - Life In Music

Chet Atkins - Life In Music
Quote from Amazon.Com
This is 44 minutes of pure joy. As a tribute to guitar master Chet Atkins, it's too short by half, but this TNN documentary (originally broadcast nearly 10 months before Atkins died at age 77 in June 2001) succeeds as both a concise chronology of Atkins's career and a loving valentine from the great musicians who benefited from Atkins's mentorship, collaboration, and shared love of music. Every testimony is genuinely sincere, just like Atkins was, and gracefully balanced with Chet's own picking (as astonishing as ever), interview clips, and fond reminiscences of his early days as a Tennessee performer...

Catch the wave!

Here is one of my favourite episodes from the old Russian comedy about desperate love
of the zoologist. No stunts - Russian cinema icon Georgy Vitsin cathes the wave himself.
